What is
Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is one of the specialized fields of dentistry. It is
concerned with the growth and development of the dentition and of
course, the treatment of irregularities which can occur. To
produce a nice smile takes a team effort. That is why in Bharath
Dental we work as a team. and the Orthodontist is available 6 days
a week at your service. |

So who
practices Orthodontics?
Orthodontists. These are dentists who undergo specialist training
(normally lasting 3 years) and hold a postgraduate qualification
in Orthodontics. Emphasis is placed on diagnosis, prevention and
treatment of dental and facial irregularities.
What will happen when I go to the Orthodontist?
1. Initial Visit and Examination.
Your first visit will give you the opportunity to discuss your
concerns and problems with the orthodontist. It will consist of a
preliminary evaluation and a discussion regarding treatment, if it
is necessary. Diagnostic records (X-rays, photos, impressions
etc.) may also be taken to determine the complexity of the
problem. These also help the orthodontist to draw up a treatment
plan for you.
2. The Second Visit.
Sometimes a second visit may be necessary to fully evaluate your
treatment plan, which will be discussed in detail and what is
involved in the treatment, what results you can expect, how long
the treatment will take, and of course, how much it will cost.
your treatment can also be scheduled to be commenced on the second
visit also. |
3.
Periodic Visits.
Regular visits to your Orthodontist are a very necessary part of
successful treatment. Normally you will have to visit the doctor
every four to eight weeks to monitor your progress and adjust your
braces.
4. Follow Up.
Your retainers are designed to hold your teeth in their new
positions until your bone, gums, and muscles adapt to the new
teeth positions. The retention period is an important part of your
overall treatment and should not be neglected!
How long will it take?
It all depends. No two patients are the same, and likewise, no two
orthodontic treatments are the same. Braces may be on for between
6 months to 30 months, or longer depending on the severity of the
problem, the cooperation of the patient, the age of the patient,
and the degree of movement which can be achieved. Beautiful smiles
take time so you must expect to be patient during the treatment.
After all, Rome wasn't built in a day!
